Details
In the original tale of Treasure Island, by Robert Louis Stevenson, young Jim Hawkins set sail on a dangerous adventure, encountering the legendary Long John Silver on the way, and trying to solve a treasure map marked with a mysterious X. This swashbuckling book is still a classic, and painted such iconic images of pirates, that we still picture them with one leg and a parrot on their shoulder.
There have been several slots called Treasure Island – after all, it’s the perfect theme for a game – who doesn’t like to see glittering pieces of gold spinning before their eyes? In this review, we shall focus our telescope on Treasure Island, a 5 reel, 20 pay line slot from Microgaming.
So, let’s weigh anchor, climb the rigging, and set sail for Treasure Island, to see if we can win our very own dead man’s chest, overflowing with gems and booty. Or even a progressive jackpot.
Theme
You are welcomed aboard Treasure Island with a jaunty sea shanty, and a gruff pirate bids you welcome. The sea shanty audio is on a loop – it’s fun at first, but after precisely two and a half repetitions, you will be stabbing the mute mute button with a rusty cutlass.
The symbols on the reels are traditional pirate images including swords, parrots, and a sailor with a hooked hand. Braided gold ropes edge the reels, and the backdrop is a tropical desert island.
How to Play
The game has five reels and 20 lines. The minimum stake is 1p, and the maximum prize per line is £10,000. You will give your fellow shipmates scurvy if you get lucky here, so jealous will they be with your plunder. Sea dogs with an eye for a big treasure haul should keep their good eye peeled for the Pirate’s Treasure progressive jackpot.
Treasure is yours if you match three, four, or five symbols consecutively, from left to right, on an active win line.
Playing is more simple than walking the plank. Click the STAKE + or – to determine the size of your bet. Clicking the LINES + or – similarly increases or decreases the amount of lines. Once you are happy with the setup, hammer the SPIN button with your hooked hand, and keep your wooden legs crossed you get lucky.
Lazy pirates can click the autoplay function – make sure you select the correct amount, and always remember to play responsibly and certainly not after drinking any rum. If you want to cancel the feature, hit the Stop Autoplay button.
Bonus rounds
The bonus game is accessed by getting three or more chest symbols. A new game launches, and the screen displays three closed chests, which contain three multipliers. Choose one chest, watch it open, and if you a lucky cur, and have the wind in your sails, you may reveal a multiplier.
For explosive fun and big wins, get three or more cannon symbols. This then triggers the Cannon Bonus round. Hit FIRE, which will also determine how many steps along the Treasure Trail you progress. Keep on firing the cannon until you reach the end of the trail. Your treasure is rewarded according to the multiplier, which is displayed at the end of the trail.
Progressive jackpot
Get five pirate symbols anywhere on the reels to get the Pirate’s Treasure progressive jackpot. This is available no matter how much you have staked, and is displayed in the right-hand corner of the screen.
The WILD symbol is a gold coin – this substitutes all others except for the scatter symbol.
So – ready to climb aboard the Treasure Island slot? The voyage may be long, but chances are, it will be profitable, as it has an excellent 90% to 94% payout.
