Wicked Grin is a video slot from Hacksaw Gaming, released on 8 October 2026. We’re introduced to a new character named Boney Bill, a mischievous skeleton figure with a permanent grin and a few tricks up his sleeve.

Inspired by 1930s cartoon artwork, the new release combines vintage animation with expanding symbols, Coin multipliers, and two Free Spins bonuses. Behind the cartoon-style presentation lies an elaborate game with a maximum win of 10,000x the bet.

Design

Wicked Grin draws inspiration from the early days of cartoon animation, with a mischievous skeleton who bears more than a passing resemblance to Mickey Mouse. The atmosphere changes considerably during Free Spins, when the gloomy tunnel is replaced by a brightly lit orange-and-yellow chequerboard. The contrast is striking, giving the bonus round a livelier, almost theatrical appearance. Boney Bill remains beside the grid, enthusiastically gesturing towards the action as though he’s hosting his own rather peculiar cartoon show.

Symbols

The lower-paying symbols are four playing card suits: clubs, diamonds, hearts and spades. Landing 17 or more matching symbols awards 25x the bet.

Grapes, watermelons, golden bells, cherries and blue 7s make up the higher-paying symbols. Wins containing 17 or more matching symbols award between 50x and 100x the bet.

The special symbols have a more important role. The Red FS coins are the Scatters, and golden Super Scatters trigger an enhanced version. When either reaches the bottom row, it expands along its reel to reveal Free Spins values of +1, +2 or +3. These values are combined to determine the number of spins awarded.

Boney Bill features on the expanding Wicked Grin symbol. Landing one on the bottom row transforms its reel into Coins and Multipliers after any wins have been paid. The golden Epic Wicked Grin symbol goes a step further by triggering other Wicked Grin symbols wherever they land.

Bronze, silver, gold and diamond Coin symbols have values ranging from 1x to 500x the bet. Purple Multiplier symbols are worth up to 10x, increasing the potential rewards from the collected Coins.

Wicked Grin Features

Wicked Grin may not have an extensive list of features, but there’s considerably more potential here than first meets the eye. These include Expanding Wicked Grin Coins, Spreading Scatters, Stash N Stack, Coin Craze and Feature Buys.

Expanding Wicked Grin Coins

Wicked Grin and Epic Wicked Grin symbols trigger when they land on the bottom row. Once a win is paid, the qualifying symbol expands to cover its entire reel, transforming the positions into Coins or Multipliers. Only one Wicked Grin symbol type can land on a reel.

The golden Epic Wicked Grin has an additional advantage. When it expands, any other Wicked Grin symbols on the grid are triggered, regardless of their position. The symbols expand upward from their current positions, potentially transforming several reels in a single spin.

The Coin values are:

Bronze Coins: 1x, 2x, 3x or 4x the bet.

Silver Coins: 5x, 6x, 7x, 8x or 9x the bet.

Gold Coins: 10x, 20x, 30x, 40x or 50x the bet.

Diamond Coins: 100x, 150x, 250x or 500x the bet.

Multipliers have values of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 10x or 20x. Each Multiplier increases the value of Coins positioned above it on the same reel, as well as Coins on neighbouring reels in higher rows.

If several Multipliers are revealed, they are applied individually, allowing Coins to benefit from multiple increases. Multipliers cannot occupy the top row.

Spreading Scatter Feature

Spreading Scatters activate when at least one Scatter or Super Scatter lands on the bottom row. Once all wins have been paid, the qualifying symbols expand to fill their respective reels. Each position covered reveals a Free Spins value of +1, +2 or +3.

The values are added together to determine the total number of Free Spins awarded. Both Scatter types offer the same possible values, but they trigger different bonus rounds.

Regular Scatters activate Stash N Stack, whereas golden Super Scatters trigger Coin Craze. Neither can land together, and no more than two Scatter symbols can be present during a spin.

Stash N Stack

Stash N Stack is triggered through the Spreading Scatter Feature, awarding between 5 and 30 Free Spins. Additional expanding Scatters can retrigger the bonus, providing another 5 to 30 spins.

The base game mechanics remain active, but each reel now has its own Stash Multiplier, starting at 1x. When a Wicked Grin symbol expands, the Coin values on its reel are multiplied by the corresponding Stash Multiplier.

Once the coin values are multiplied, the Stash Multiplier increases by 1x for the next Free Spin. Each reel develops independently, creating opportunities for larger payouts as the bonus progresses.

Coin Craze

Coin Craze is triggered through the Spreading Scatter Feature, awarding between 5 and 30 Free Spins. Additional expanding Super Scatters can retrigger the bonus, providing another 5 to 30 spins.

The base game mechanics remain active, but each reel now has a Coin Collector starting at 1x. When a Wicked Grin symbol expands, the Coin values on that reel are added to its Collector, where they remain until the bonus ends.

Multipliers provide further opportunities to increase the accumulated prizes. If multipliers are revealed during an expansion, they continue to multiply the Coin values and also multiply the Coin Collector values on the same reel and neighbouring reels.

At the end of Coin Craze, the values from all five Coin Collectors are combined and awarded as the final bonus payout.

Feature Buys

Wicked Grin has two Feature Spins options and two Bonus Buys. Players can choose to increase their chances of triggering special features or access the bonus rounds directly.

BonusHunt Feature Spins (3x bet): Each spin has a 5x chance of triggering a bonus round.

Grinny Feature Spins (50x bet): Guarantees at least one Wicked Grin or Epic Wicked Grin symbol on every spin.

Hacksaw Gaming has earned its reputation for producing innovative slots, and Wicked Grin is another entertaining addition to its collection. Boney Bill has plenty of character, although the artwork is hardly a departure from the developer’s established style. The real attraction lies in the gameplay, where seemingly simple expanding symbols open the door to some impressive winning possibilities.

The two bonus rounds are particularly interesting. Stash N Stack rewards the gradual growth of reel multipliers, whereas Coin Craze creates anticipation as prizes accumulate towards a potentially substantial final payout. The expanding symbols bring an element of surprise to the base game, although their dependence on landing in the right positions could test players’ patience. The constantly moving background may prove irritating, and those who prefer straightforward gameplay could find the Coin mechanics unnecessarily complicated.

With medium volatility, a maximum win of 10,000x and a highest RTP of 96.27%, Wicked Grin is a more approachable proposition than many of Hacksaw’s notoriously unforgiving releases.
