Microgaming have had an up and down year, with a pretty hit and miss collection of slots having been released by the popular software developer.
However, with the news that the release of the somewhat cursed Phantom of the Opera slot is finally on the horizon, things seem to be looking up for the provider.
One of the most high-octane releases from Microgaming in the last few months was Monster Wheels, a five-reel slot that offers either 128 or 288 ways to win depending on player preference.
About the slot
Based on monster trucks, the reels are full of the huge, petrol-guzzling machines that are the Gods of the adrenalin fuelled world, six of them to be precise.
The lower value symbols are represented by the traditional 9, 10, J, Q, K, and A filler symbols, which is always a shame, especially as no effort has been made to design these symbols in a way that fits the theme of the game.
This is still a good-looking slot though, with artwork that is reminiscent of Hot Wheels toys, allowing for a good dose of nostalgia for players.
Gameplay
Monster Wheels isn’t Microgaming’s most complex slot when it comes to the features involved, there is only a free spins feature, but it’s a good one.
Monster Wheels is all about options, not only in the number of paylines, but in the free spins round too, where you can choose between three spins with an 8x multiplier, six spins with a 4x multiplier, or twelve spins with a 2x multiplier. Land a scatter symbol during this feature and you’ll receive another free spin too.
Statistically, there isn’t much to choose between the three options, so it’s very much a case of personal preference.
Not Microgaming’s best slot by any stretch, Monster Wheels is still a lot of fun to play.
