There’s no denying this is a great looking slot that has been designed really well. It’s set within a Mayan temple, with the jungle trees and stone monuments in the background, and the graphics are superb.
The reels have a dark blue/black colour allowing the bright symbols to stand out nicely. There are J to A royals, daggers, goblets, rings, a Mayan Chief, the Quetzalcoatl dragon and John Hunter himself. He is the most rewarding and worth 50x your stake for 5 on a payline.
The Mayan Mask is the wild and can replace any other symbols apart from the scatter, and only appears on the central 3 reels.
Gameplay and Features
There are 2 main bonus features. The first is the expanding wilds which is triggered when the gold Mayan mask lands on any central 3 reels. When the wild lands, it expands to give you a wild reel. In theory, you can have 3 fully wild reels if you land a wild on each of the central reels.
If you land at least 3 scatters, this activates the free spins feature as well as awarding a payout. You start with 12 free spins and the reels change as you land a wild to progress through the levels. 1 wild will give you 1 additional free spin and increase your level by 1. 2 wilds give you 3 more free spins and increases your level by 2 and 3 wilds give you 5 more free spins and increases your level by 3.
On each level, the symbols change accordingly. Level 2 see all goblets turn into daggers and this increases through to level 6 where all Mayan chief symbols turn to John Hunter symbols.
Verdict
There are plenty of slots in the John Hunter series and this blends into the rest nicely. The gameplay is straightforward but there are some fairly decent wins to be had.
