Ice Hockey is a popular sport and not a theme normally associated with a slot machine. Although a couple exist, Pragmatic Play broke with tradition and ran with an Ice Hockey theme for Hockey Attack.
About Hockey Attack
The hockey action takes place across 5 reels with 88 winning paylines. Hockey Attack is available on desktop and mobile devices from 88p up to £176 per spin. Expect medium volatility, a decent RTP of 96.37%, and a top prize of 2500x the total bet per spin.
As the title suggests, it’s all about the Hockey match. A large game area sits in the middle of a hockey rink. In terms of design, I’m surprised at the dated appearance, more in line with a slot designed a couple of decades ago, not in 2021.
On the reels, low values are represented by blue royal card suits, along with skates, helmets, and three hockey players in blue, green, and red.
Gameplay
After forming a winning combination, the tumbling reels activate, and all the symbols involved in the win fall away and are replaced with new symbols.
The wild is the Hockey Wild logo and when it lands it substitutes on the last 3 reels. Watch out for the Super Stacked wild, this can land anytime on the middle three reels.
If 3 or more scatters land on a spin a prize of up to 250x is awarded. 12 free spins with a multiplier trigger. After each winning combination, a tumble follows, and the multiplier increases by 1x. After 7 tumbles the multiplier could reach as high as 8x for the current free spin.
The wilds are present on 4 reels instead of the usual 3. On each spin, the number of wilds increases and appear stacked when they land.
Verdict
Although appearance-wise, Hockey Attack is a tad old school, it maintains a high level of win potential. Whether you enjoy Ice Hockey or not, Hockey Attack will appeal to the more casual players thanks to the medium volatility.
