While Central and South America, and particularly Mexico, is often taken as a theme for online slot games, Cuba remains relatively untouched by software developers.
Given the potential for striking imagery, this is surprising, and it’s a gap in the market (or as close as the iGaming world gets to one) that Booming Games are looking to take full advantage of with Cuba Caliente.
Design and theme
With five reels and 20 fixed paylines, Cuba Caliente is playable from 20p a spin on all compatible desktop, mobile, and tablet devices, and is the cacophony of colour that one would expect from a Cuban inspired slot game.
Cuban music and dancing is at the heart of this slot’s concept, with a barrage of colour and movement with a funky soundtrack bringing the theme to life beautifully.
Cigars, guitars, and more appear as symbols on the reels, while various 7s play the lower values. The wild is represented by the dancers and the car is the scatter symbol.
All in all, this design is fairly predictable, but executed well enough for that not to matter.
Gameplay
The third reel is constantly wild during this game, which is an exciting way to perk up a player’s interest in the base game.
Land three of the car scatter symbols anywhere in view on the reels and you will trigger the free spins feature.
There is nothing particularly special or fresh about this feature, except that the presence of the wild reel in the middle makes it a lot easier to pick up winning combinations, so this feature can be profitable.
It would’ve been nice to see a bit more effort go into the gameplay of this slot, but Cuba Caliente is a visual treat, and can lead to some big wins if you’re lucky, so it’s worth a go.
