This new identity reflected its commitment to software development and licensing, a far cry from its earlier focus areas.

Expansion and Growth in iGaming

Chartwell Technology's venture into software development proved successful. By 2005, the company expanded its portfolio by acquiring MicroPower, an online poker software developer. This acquisition allowed Chartwell to develop various online casino games, including slot games, table games, fixed-odds games, mini-games, and networked multiplayer baccarat and blackjack.

The company grew significantly, employing over 130 people in Malta, the UK, and Canada. Chartwell's games were listed on prominent slot sites in the UK.

Acquisition by The Stars Group

In July 2011, Chartwell Technology was acquired by The Stars Group, which was then known as Amaya Gaming Group, in a deal worth $23 million. This acquisition transformed Chartwell into a wholly-owned subsidiary of Amaya Gaming Group Inc., leading to yet another name change to Amaya Alberta Inc. This phase marked Chartwell's integration into a larger conglomerate, enhancing its reach and capabilities.

Final Transition and Legacy

The journey did not end there. In 2015, Amaya sold Chartwell and other subsidiaries to NYX Gaming Group, based in Las Vegas. This sale marked the beginning of Chartwell's final chapter under the umbrella of NYX Gaming Group. Eventually, NYX Gaming Group was acquired by Scientific Games, bringing Chartwell's journey full circle as it became part of one of the biggest names in the gaming industry.
