About
Head for the hills – the aliens are coming! Or alternatively, you could run right up to them and surrender – but be sure to have a go on the alien-abduction themed slot What on Earth first, before they get busy with their cold metal probes.
What on Earth is a classic nine payline, five reel slot with out of this world space symbols, and three rollicking bonus rounds that make War of the Worlds look like Button Moon.
Rack up big wins in the Beam ’em Up bonus level, where you become an alien who beams up earthlings. In the Destination bonus game, zoom around the world and choose one of four destinations for your alien, and beam up even more hapless earthlings.
Minimum bet is 9p, with a maximum jackpot of £37,500.
Theme
This slot is bright and eye-catching as a shooting star, and more fun than riding one. Icons include cartoon aliens, UFOs and other such interplanetary gubbins. The traditional fruit machine symbols have been given a space age makeover – I particularly like the plum with the rings around it, the flaming meteorite cherry, and melon with orbiting seeds. The artwork seemingly takes inspiration from Cartoon Network kids’ shows, with bold and quirkily-drawn animations. Sound effects are suitably bleepy and bloopy, and an ominous cinematic theme rumbles in the background.
How to play
Hit the red Select Lines button to choose one of up to nine pay lines. Then choose Coin Size, and hit Spin. All wins pay left-to-right, except the scatter symbols, which pay adjacent. Some Microgaming casinos will offer the Expert Mode, which has the regular features, plus the benefit of automatic spins.
The What on Earth symbol is the wild, and there are three different scatter symbols – the rocket, saucer, and shuttle.
Bonus Round
The three bonus rounds are seriously ingenious – surely an alien intelligence designed them?
To activate the first Beam ’em Up bonus game, you need three saucer or three shuttle symbols to display on adjacent reels. The sauce and shuttle symbols will only display on Reels 3, 4, 5. If this happens, you can win up to 200 x multiplier value on your entire bet.
In this bonus game, you need to pick an alien – the naughty little green man will then beam up an earthling, which will trigger a multiplier value.
The second bonus game is called the Beam ’em Up Contest. If your alien beams up a Contest symbol, you can win up to a 200 x multiplier value on your total bet. In this tense round, your alien must beam up more than the others in a given time.
The third round is called the Destination Bonus Game. This is activated within the Beam ’em Up game, but only if your alien beams up the Globe symbol. Your alien then goes on a globetrotting adventure, potentially visiting New York, London, Tokyo, and Cairo for a 400 x win. To win, your alien needs to lock on and beam up the main character in each city.
Overview
I particularly enjoyed the reverse twist in this game – it’s exciting to be the alien abductor instead of the helpless human.
So, if you’re ready to take part in your own space battle, where a £37,500 win is a possibility, then hop on board with your new alien buddies and prepare to zap some hapless humans.
