We’re inside a wooden cabin with a wooden table and chairs, and various shelves full of potion bottles, candles and books. The 7×7 reels are in the centre and there is a purple cauldron to the left, mixing up a green mysterious brew which delivers your modifiers. The graphics are excellent, with plenty of thought and detail put into the overall design.
The symbols are lower value gemstones in 4 different colours and shapes, along with 4 different potion bottles which are higher values, paying up to 500x your stake. There is also a regular wild (the book) and a Unicorn wild.
Gameplay and Features
There are no free spins or bonus rounds here and the gameplay is similar to the popular Reactoonz slot. Wins are formed in clusters, with 5 matching symbols being the minimum required. Winning symbols are then removed with new ones dropping down in the hope of forming another win.
Winning symbols are collected in the cauldron and when you have at least 25, a modifier comes into play. You can receive up to 5 modifiers in a sequence with the right number of wins. The first 4 modifiers are:
The balm of Transfiguration where a low symbol turns into a higher value.
The Enlarging Ale where a cluster of 3×3 or 4×4 symbols are added to the grid.
The Invisibrew where all lower value symbols are removed, and new symbols drop down.
Befuddlement which sees all premium symbols turned into low pays.
You then have the choice of one of two for your fifth modifier. This is either Unicorn Dust where 3 or 4 Unicorn wilds with 1x or 2x multipliers, are added to the reels. These multipliers increase with each win up to a maximum of 20x. Or you can choose Potion of Darkness where only premium symbols are on the reels.
Verdict
Visually this is a great looking game and although the lack of free spins and bonus rounds might put players off initially, there are so many modifiers available, the gameplay is engaging. It’s a highly volatile game, so don’t be fooled by the cute graphics and theme.
