With a decent number of slots over the years being based on the Great Train Robbery, it was only a matter of time until a developer took the concept that one step further, which is exactly what Red Tiger Gaming have done with The Greatest Train Robbery.

But what makes this tale of a robbery in the Wild West better than the others that have come before it? Let alone the greatest?

About the slot

With five reels and 40 paylines, The Greatest Train Robbery is playable from 20p a spin on all compatible desktop, mobile, and tablet devices.

For something described as the greatest, there is not a great deal to get excited about in terms of design here.

A simple, basic, outdated feel dominates the entire of the slot, with the 10, J, Q, K, and A card symbols playing the lower values on the reels, while bags of money, stacks of coins, and more themed symbols portray the higher values.

This is a really average looking slot, to the extent that it being bad would actually be preferable, because that would make it less dull.

Uninspired, disappointing, and less than we’ve come to expect from Red Tiger, who are capable of producing excellent looking slots, just not here.

Gameplay

The wild will substitute for all but the scatter symbol, which will be triggered with three or more scatter symbols.

The there’s a re-spins feature, and mystery symbols, which add little bits of excitement here and there, which helps a little.

The problem is, none of it feels good enough, especially when you consider the lacklustre design work that packages the gameplay.

The Greatest Train Robbery is far from the best slot of its ilk, Wild West slots are a dime a dozen, and this is one of the worst we’ve seen in a while.
