Smoking Dragon is a video slot released by Hacksaw Gaming on 8 January 2026. It’s not what we have come to expect from Hacksaw, with its Asian-inspired cartoon style. The slot features a rather friendly-looking Dragon smoking a pipe, smiling by the side of the reels. He is surrounded by tranquil lakes, drifting clouds and an Asian-inspired soundtrack. The tone remains light-hearted, and even the clouds have fun facial expressions that change as the game progresses.

Cascades drive the action, with Wild multipliers and Dragon Egg instant prizes breaking up the flow. Three bonus rounds deliver additional action on the path toward the 10,000x max win.

Smoking Dragon has a 5×4 layout with 1,024 ways to win. To create a win, you’ll need matching symbols landing on consecutive reels from the leftmost. Each win clears the winning symbols, allowing new ones to drop into place, potentially forming continuous wins on a single spin.

Design & Symbols

Smoking Dragon settles into a gentle lakeside scene where the reels and artwork do the smiling for you. The dragon lounges beside the grid with a pipe in hand, more interested in a slow puff than guarding treasure. Clouds hover above with raised eyebrows, pondering what will happen next. To the left of the grid is a pot of golden eggs, which tie into the bonus features, but we’ll get to those later.

The slot has 1,024 ways to win and wins from when matching symbols land from the left across consecutive reels. The low-value symbols are the standard card suits, paying 0.5x for a five-of-a-kind. The high values are a rabbit, a ram, a pig, a wolf, and a lion. Five matching awards between 1x and 1.5x, the bet.

The Wild is the red and gold dragon and substitutes for regular symbols to help form winning combos. They also award 2.5x for a full line. The Scatter is the pipe, and – appropriately – it’s the only thing capable of pulling the Dragon away from his evening smoke long enough to trigger the bonus game.

There are many features in Smoking Dragon, each designed to alter how cascades and multipliers behave. Some rounds increase Wild activity, while others introduce instant-win symbols and increase the multipliers. Let’s take a closer look at each in more detail.

Row Cascade

Row Cascades act in a slightly different way from normal cascades. When a win lands, the entire bottom row drops out, and the remaining symbols above drop down to fill the empty spaces. A new row of symbols enters from above to restore the grid, and the sequence continues as long as new wins land. It’s a simple setup, but it changes the flow of each spin to give the feature its own identity.

Wild Symbols

In Smoking Dragon, there are two Wilds: a standard and an Epic. Both step in for regular symbols to help with winning combos, but they can also have a multiplier attached. The multipliers range from 2x to 100x.

Epic Wilds add an extra layer of anticipation. After each Row Cascade within the same spin, the Epic Wild multiplier doubles in value. If multiple Wilds contribute to the same win, their multipliers are combined before being applied to the winning payout.

Dragon Eggs

Dragon Eggs are straightforward but rewarding. When three land on a spin, they award an instant 500x prize. Once triggered, the Eggs remain dormant on the grid until a cascade clears them.

Puff of Luck

To trigger the Puff of Luck feature, you’ll need three FS Scatters in the same spin for ten free spins. The round follows the same structure as the base game but with a higher chance of landing Wilds, Epic Wilds, and Dragon Eggs, so there’s more potential from the outset. Extra Scatters can extend the round: two awards +2 spins, while three awards +4.

Smouldering Riches

The Smouldering Riches bonus triggers when 4 Scatters land on a spin, awarding ten free spins. A multiplier bar beside the reels tracks the minimum Wild multipliers that land during the feature. It begins at 1x and increases by 2x, 5x, 10x, 15x, and 25x every time you complete ten Row Cascades.

As with Puff of Luck, extra Scatters can extend the round. Landing two triggers +2 spins, while three adds +4.

Fire and Fortune Epic Bonus

Fire and Fortune Epic Bonus triggers when five FS Scatters land on the same spin, awarding ten free spins. This version includes everything from the other bonus rounds, but the Multiplier Bar starts at 5x.

Each spin guarantees at least one win and either a Wild or an Epic Wild. However, unlike the other bonus rounds, this feature cannot be retriggered.

Verdict

Smoking Dragon is an Asian inspired slot from Hacksaw Gaming with a deliberate, playful feel. It is less treasure guarding, Dragon slaying and more of a cartoon-style led presentation featuring a smooth, pipe-smoking Dragon. The whole aesthetic is fun, with great win potential, but the low-to-medium volatility makes it clear that Hacksaw is aiming this one at the casual market rather than the high-roller market. The low volatility, an above-average RTP of 96.30%, and max win of 10,000x is a triple whammy in our book.

The Row Cascade is a game-changer and an interesting addition to the basic cascade system. Instead of removing the winning symbols, the entire bottom row is removed after a win, leaving the winning symbols in place and continuing to drop into new positions.
