As you probably guessed from the name, Showdown Saloon is one of those Wild West themed slots that pop up semi-regularly throughout the year.
This latest effort comes from Microgaming, and while the market is fairly stacked with slots based around this same concept, Microgaming have proven themselves as capable, on occasion, of bringing something new to the familiar.
About the slot
With five reels and 15 paylines, Showdown Saloon is playable from 20p to £100 a spin on all compatible desktop, mobile, and tablet devices.
Bullets are visible in the background, as are playing cards, making the 10, J, Q, K, and A symbols playing the lower values on the reels make more sense.
The higher values are played by chips, dice, guns, and whiskey, while the hand of cards is the wild, replacing all but the scatter symbol.
The design here is okay, it’s nothing particularly special, and when the concept isn’t anything new, perhaps it has to be, but being Microgaming, it looks attractive enough.
Gameplay
Showdown Saloon has Mystery Stacks symbols on every reel, with every spin, each reel’s stack will turn into one symbol, these can be different, but the symbols on the first two reels will always match.
If you land a symbol fully stacked on reel two, three, or four, you will trigger a re-spin with the triggering stacks remaining locked in position, with all other Mystery Stacks turning into the symbol on the triggering reels.
Land stacks on the first three reels (at least) and you’ll trigger the Free Spins feature, which offers up to 15 spins, and has the Mystery Stacks and re-spin features triggerable throughout.
The gameplay is interesting here, and goes a long way to make up for the fairly lacklustre effort in terms of design.
