We’re back to Africa once again with another safari themed slot, Serengeti Gold. This is a Microgaming collaboration with JustForTheWin and compared to the last two ‘Gold’ games from JustForTheWin, it looks like they’ve cut back on the perks here, starting with the reduced maximum win. With bets from 20p up to £100, the top prize is 2500x your stake. It’s still a decent amount but compared to the 25000x with Emerald Gold, it’s disappointing.
It’s a high volatility slot with an average RTP of 96.1% and features a bonus game, free spins, scatters, wilds, a bonus wheel, hold and spin and multipliers. It’s also available to play on all devices.
Serengeti Gold Design
Set on the plains of the Serengeti, there are clear blue skies, the occasional tree and the vast expanse of the dry Serengeti land. The graphics are excellent, and the symbols are nicely detailed, but at first glance, it doesn’t look any different to many other African themed slots.
Symbols include the regular card royals along with a rhino, bison, elephant, cheetah and a lion which is the wild. This wild can substitute all regular symbols and is also worth the most, paying 20x your stake for 5 on a payline. There are also mini, major and mega jackpot symbols to correspond with their jackpot amounts.
Gameplay and Features
Serengeti Gold focuses on the hyperhold respins feature. When you land at least 6 bonus symbols on a spin, they’re held in place while all other symbols are removed. You’ll then receive 3 respins to try and form new wins and each time a new bonus symbol lands, you’ll receive another 3 respins.
Free spins are triggered when you land at least 3 scatters on a spin. The bonus wheel appears and spins to reveal the number of free spins you’ll win, along with a multiplier to go with them. You’ll receive from 10 to 25 free spins and a multiplier between 2x to 5x.
Verdict
Although this is a good solid effort with a decent top prize, a decent RTP and decent gameplay, there is nothing to elevate it from other similar games. There are no innovative features which is a shame, as it would have stood out more with just a little extra.
