Rotten Potato is a horror-themed video slot from Print Studios, released on 21 October 2026. The story began with Royal Potato in 2021, in a whimsical fairytale kingdom ruled by an eccentric potato aristocracy. Its imaginative artwork and inventive SuperSpinners mechanic helped establish Print Studios as a developer with a flair for ambitious slot design.

Five years later, that once-prosperous kingdom has fallen. A mysterious fungal disease has swept through the land, transforming its royal inhabitants into grotesque, walking-dead versions of their former selves. The fairytale fantasy has become a full-blown potato apocalypse, and the kingdom’s glory days are looking decidedly rotten.

But Rotten Potato is far more than a sinister makeover. Print Studios has introduced a fresh collection of features, including Potato Horde, Spreading Fungus and the Potato Plague Bonus. With a maximum win of 20,000x the stake, there’s still plenty at stake in this decaying kingdom. The potatoes might be past their best, but the imagination behind them certainly isn’t.

Technical

Despite the kingdom’s unfortunate condition, Rotten Potato follows a familiar slot format. The game has five reels, four rows and 30 fixed paylines. Wins require at least three matching symbols on consecutive reels, beginning with the first reel on the left.

Stakes range from £0.10 to £50 per spin internationally. At UK-licensed casinos, the maximum is £2 for players aged 18–24 and £5 for those aged 25 and over.

Print Studios sets the standard RTP at 96.26%, with alternative versions of 94.30% and 92.31%. The hit frequency is 25.69%, equivalent to a winning spin approximately every 3.9 rounds.

Rotten Potato has a high volatility rating of 9/10 and a maximum win of 20,000x the stake. It is compatible with desktop and mobile browsers, including smartphones and tablets.

Design

The fairytale kingdom of Royal Potato has taken a gruesome turn. Gone are the fairytale surroundings and regal splendour, replaced by a gloomy landscape consumed by decay. Fungal growth has spread throughout the kingdom, leaving little trace of its former glory.

The royal family has suffered an equally unpleasant transformation. Once-proud potato aristocrats now appear as grotesque, undead creatures, with distorted expressions and the unmistakable signs of infection. Their exaggerated features retain the original cartoon charm, though the humour has taken a much darker turn.

Print Studios has paid close attention to the atmosphere. The shadowy artwork, diseased vegetation and suspenseful soundtrack create an unsettling scene without abandoning the eccentric personality. Even the colourful flower symbols seem rather out of place in a kingdom that’s clearly beyond saving.

The contrast between royal elegance and outright decay is absurd, and Print Studios have had fun transforming its fairytale creation into a nightmare. The kingdom’s problems seem to have progressed far beyond a few rotten vegetables.

Symbols & Paytable

The symbols in Rotten Potato reflect the kingdom’s unfortunate demise, with colourful flowers sharing the reels with a collection of thoroughly unpleasant potato aristocrats.

Blue, green, orange and purple flowers form the lower-paying symbols. Five matching flowers across a payline award between 1.5x and 3x the stake.

The high-value symbols feature six members of the undead royal family: Lord Lurchley, Baron Braaainsley, Countess Bloateria, Duchess Dawnita, Queen Mashonne, and King Cordyceps III. Five matching symbols award between 6x and 50x the bet.

Mystery Symbols play a role in the special features, which we’ll explore shortly. The Scatter is a rotten baby potato and triggers the Potato Plague Bonus.

It’s quite a family portrait. Royal Potato’s once-respectable nobility have seen better days, although their fortunes on the paytable haven’t suffered quite as badly as their appearances.

Not only has the fungal plague transformed the potato kingdom, but Print Studios has also added a brand-new set of features, including SuperSpinners, Mystery Symbols, the Potato Plague Bonus, and Feature Buy.

SuperSpinners

The game has 14 SuperSpinners, each with a multiplier.

The SuperSpinners trigger randomly on any spin. When a winning payline crosses an active SuperSpinner, its displayed multiplier is applied to the win. If several SuperSpinners appear along the same winning line, they multiply the win one after another.

Mystery Symbols

Two Mystery Symbol features can trigger randomly on any base game, before a win is evaluated.

Potato Horde: Covers a rectangular area of the reels with Mystery Symbols, ranging from 2×2 positions to the entire 5×4 grid.

Spreading Fungus: Places between 4 and 20 Mystery Symbols in random positions across the reels.

All Mystery Symbols reveal the same paying symbol before winning combinations are evaluated.

Plague Bonus

Landing 3, 4 or 5 Scatters during the base game triggers the Potato Plague Bonus, awarding 10, 12 or 14 free spins, respectively.

A 1×2 Rotten Potato Wild appears in the centre of the reels and stays there throughout the bonus, substituting for regular paying symbols. Whenever the Wild contributes to a winning combination, all symbols in that win become infected. These positions may turn into Mystery Symbols on subsequent spins.

Infection can spread to additional random positions after each spin. If the bonus was triggered with 5 Scatters, this happens on every spin.

An infection meter tracks the number of infected positions across five levels. Each level awards extra free spins and increases the total multiplier value distributed randomly among the SuperSpinners:

1st Level: 3 extra free spins and 10x added to the multiplier total.

2nd Level: 3 extra free spins and 15x added to the multiplier total.

3rd Level: 3 extra free spins and 20x added to the multiplier total.

4th  Level: 3 extra free spins and 50x added to the multiplier total.

5th Level: 1 extra free spin and 100x added to the multiplier total.

Feature Buys

Rotten Potato offers two feature buy options: Bonus or access it immediately.

SuperSlider – 1.5x to 99x the stake: An adjustable slider increases the probability of triggering the Potato Plague Bonus. The slider ranges from 0.83% to 96.19%. The higher the slider, the greater the cost.

Bonus Buy – 103x the stake: Guarantees the Potato Plague Bonus with 3, 4 or 5 Scatters. The Mystery Symbol features are disabled when this option is selected.

Feature Buy options are not available in the UK

Verdict

Royal Potato Kingdom has gone from riches to rot, but Print Studios hasn’t lost its imagination. Rotten Potato is a grotesque sequel that transforms the original fairytale theme into a fungal nightmare, complete with undead aristocrats and a wicked sense of humour.

The familiar SuperSpinners provide a welcome connection to the original, while the Mystery Symbols and Potato Plague Bonus introduce new ways for wins to develop. The infection mechanic is innovative, although the multiple stages and multiplier rules may take a little time to understand.

Boasting high volatility and a maximum win of 20,000x the stake, Rotten Potato has considerable payout potential.

Print Studios deserves credit for creating a sequel that goes beyond a change of scenery. Rotten Potato has its own personality, more mechanical depth and some delightfully revolting artwork. The royal family may be beyond saving, but their kingdom is still worth exploring.
