The elaborately framed reels sit in a library with books scattered and a rotating globe to the right. The soundtrack is somewhat mysterious and the moonlight shining through the glass dome roof adds atmosphere.
Symbols include low value royals, a shield, a magic potion, a chalice, a pendant, a dagger and a spell book. The latter pays 100x for 6 on a payline. The magician is the wild and can substitute all other barring the glowing orb scatter.
Gameplay
The wilds are central in the base game and when they land, they can expand to fill the entire reel. The wild also adds a multiplier of 2x up to 10x to the win once expanded.
You need at least 3 orb scatters on a spin to activate the free spins. Landing 4, 5 or 6 of awards 20x, 200x, or 2,000x the bet respectively. The player then picks one the following options:
Expanding Wilds- Awards 10 free spins. Expanding wilds on the 3rd or 4th reel award 1 respin, these come with a win multiplier increasing by 1x on each respin. Landing another 3 scatters awards an extra 10 free spins.
Sticky Wilds- Awards 8 free spins. A randomly chosen symbol transforms into a wild if it lands on reels 2-5. These then lock into position for the remainder of the free spins, if you are lucky enough to fill a reel full of wilds another 3 free spins are awarded.
A bonus buy option gets you into the free spins but costs 100x the bet. This option is not available in some jurisdictions.
Verdict
Magicians Secrets is yet another example of Pragmatic Play’s experience in slot development, the design and theme are excellent. If you prefer a less volatile slot you may struggle with this one. Also bear in mind, if you do choose the Sticky Wild option in the bonus round it is also extremely volatile.
