Defenders of the Realm Design
Defenders of the Realm has a quirky theme; it’s Vikings meet futuristic, meet Egyptian, meet space age, but funnily enough, it does seem to work well! There are unusual buildings and structures set in a desert scene, with a sky that looks as though it’s from another galaxy.
The graphics are sharp and clear and the dark 5×4 reels allow the symbols to stand out nicely. The symbols consist of the usual lower value royals which are joined by female warriors and four Viking-like males. There is also a wild which is the most valuable, as well as being a replacement for other symbols.
Gameplay and Features
The base game centres on the beat box feature where a horn symbol lands and can frame different positions with different colours. If you form a win and one of the winning symbols is within a beat box, your winnings are doubled. If you have all the reel positions in a beat box, the reel becomes wild for the following 3 spins to increase your chances of winning.
The treasure chest is the scatter and at least 3 on a spin will trigger the free spins round with various levels. 3 scatters give you a 4 level bonus round, 4 scatters give you a 5 level bonus round, and 5 scatters give you a 6 level bonus round.
Each level has various options to choose from and this continues until you reach the end of the level or the free spins end. As you progress through the level, the prizes get better.

Verdict
Not only does this slot have a more unusual theme, but there’s plenty of action and some innovative features to keep you engaged. It might seem a little chaotic at first, but once you get the hang of it, there’s some decent wins to be had.
