Crown of the Undying is a 6×5 video slot developed by Foxhound Games in collaboration with Hacksaw Gaming. Released on 28th July 2026, it is the studio’s second title following the launch of Mortal Oath earlier the same year. Players find themselves entrenched on a bleak battlefield where ruined stone structures, restless spirits, and a fallen angel create a dark, gothic atmosphere.

While the theme draws inspiration from fantasy and medieval warfare, the mechanics focus on cascading symbols and increasing win multipliers. A unique feature known as The Mark moves around the grid during the game. It interacts with symbols, unlocking character abilities that extend winning sequences.

Combined with a maximum win of 10,000x the bet, Crown of the Undying combines cascading wins, increasing multipliers and character abilities into a slot capable of producing substantial payouts.

Technical

Crown of the Undying is a 6-reel, 5-row video slot featuring the Cluster Pays mechanic. Wins are formed by landing five or more matching symbols anywhere on the grid. The slot is available on desktop and mobile devices, with bets ranging from £0.10 to £100 per spin. Crown of the Undying has an RTP of 96.26%, slightly above the industry average, though this may vary by casino. Medium-to-high volatility points to less frequent but potentially larger wins.

Combined with a maximum win of 10,000x the stake, Crown of the Undying combines cascading wins, increasing multipliers and character abilities into a slot capable of producing substantial payouts. Key features include Wild Symbols, the Multiplier Bar, The Mark, Abilities, Reign of the Usurper and a Feature Buy option.

Design and Theme

Foxhound Games chose to set Crown of the Undying on a desolate battlefield, with ruined stone structures and fallen soldiers creating a bleak, gothic backdrop. A fallen angel stands beside the reels throughout, reinforcing the dark fantasy theme without distracting from the action. The muted colour palette contrasts with the brighter symbols and feature animations, so winning clusters and special effects are much easier to follow. While the artwork is detailed, it remains uncluttered, allowing the many mechanics to shine.

Symbols

The lower-paying symbols are coloured gemstones set in ornate metal frames. Landing 21 or more matching gems awards 5x the bet. The higher-paying symbols are three characters: the Archer, the Priestess and the Knight. Special symbols include the Wild, Scatter (FS symbol) and Sarcophagus Wild symbols. The Mark is a grid position rather than a traditional symbol.

Features

Wilds

The Wild symbol substitutes for regular paying symbols to help complete winning clusters.

Multiplier Bar

The Multiplier Bar is displayed beneath the reels and contains nine segments. After each successful win, the symbols involved are removed, and new symbols fall into place, creating the opportunity for consecutive cascades. After each winning cluster, one segment in the Multiplier Bar is filled. Every third segment triggers the Multiplier Wheel, which awards a random multiplier between 2x and 100x. The multiplier is applied to the total win from that spin.

The Mark

The Mark highlights one position on the grid at the start of every spin. If a high-paying symbol lands on The Mark, its effect is triggered. Once triggered, that symbol cannot activate again. However, if a new high-paying symbol lands on The Mark, its effect will trigger. If The Mark forms part of a winning cluster, three segments are added to the Multiplier Bar.

Effects

There are three high-paying symbols, each with its own special effect:

Archer

Once triggered, the Archer adds three Wild symbols to random positions on the grid.

Priestess

When triggered, the Priestess replaces a random symbol with a Sarcophagus Wild. Once it reaches the bottom of the grid through consecutive cascades, it awards a cash prize. The value depends on the symbol it replaced, ranging from 10x to 20x for low-paying symbols and 30x to 500x for high-paying symbols.

Knight

When triggered, the Knight clears symbols from the grid by striking three positions with swords. One strike always targets the reel containing The Mark, while any Wild and Sarcophagus Wild symbols remain in place.

Once a high-paying symbol is triggered, it cannot retrigger its effect again.

Reign of the Usurper

Collect three Free Spins symbols in the FS Stack Indicator to activate the Reign of the Usurper bonus and receive 10 Free Spins. Each Free Spins symbol fills one segment of the indicator before disappearing from the grid. Unlike the base game, the Multiplier Bar carries over between Free Spins, allowing progress to build throughout the feature. The Multiplier Bar resets when the bonus begins, but any Persistent Multipliers remain active.

All three character effects become more powerful during the feature. The Archer places five Wild symbols instead of three. The Priestess creates a Sarcophagus Wild that covers two vertical positions. Lastly, the Knight clears the grid, leaving only Wild and Sarcophagus Wild symbols untouched. Collecting three more Free Spins symbols during the bonus awards two additional Free Spins.

Feature Buy

The Feature Buy allows you to skip the base game and purchase one of three bonus options. Each option costs a set multiple of your current stake:

BonusHunt FeatureSpins (3x): Each spin is five times more likely to award a bonus.

Hallowed Death FeatureSpins (50x): Guarantees at least one character effect activates on every spin

Reign of the Usurper (100x): Triggers the Free Spins bonus.

Verdict

With just one previous release to its name, Foxhound Games has made a significant statement with Crown of the Undying. Building on the foundations of its debut title Mortal Oath, the studio has delivered a feature-rich slot that demonstrates both ambition and the capabilities of Hacksaw Gaming’s OpenRGS platform.

Foxhound Games has not relied on a single headline mechanic.  No, they have successfully combined cascades, progressive multipliers and character effects into a feature-rich slot with huge reward potential.

The base game can be slow at times. High volatility and a lower hit frequency create quieter spells between bigger wins. Once the Free Spins bonus triggers, the pace changes. The persistent Multiplier Bar and enhanced character effects create more opportunities to build larger wins through consecutive cascades.

Foxhound Games’ newly released slot, Crown of the Undying, won’t suit players who prefer frequent payouts or straightforward mechanics. However, those who enjoy modern feature-rich games will find plenty to appreciate. If this is the standard Foxhound Games intends to build on, the studio has every chance of becoming one of the industry’s most exciting new developers.
