NetEnt have delved into the French Nouveau style of slot games with their June 2021 slot release, Codex of Fortune. It features some pretty innovative features and includes a bonus wheel, free spins, multipliers, scatters, wilds and locking wins.

Codex of Fortune has a striking, yet rather beautiful design that we don’t see too often. With a French Art Nouveau style, there are bold colours and very stylised symbols on the 5×4 reels. The graphics are crystal clear and everything you’d expect from a NetEnt release.

Symbols are lower value J to A card suits, along with 5other fancy animal symbols. The red lion is the most valuable, paying 5x your stake for 5 on a payline. Gameplay and Features

3 scatters landing on a single spin will trigger the free spins round. A mini wheel then spins to reveal the number of free spins which can be anything from 7 to 13. It also reveals which symbols you need to collect and how many potential level ups you can win.

Any special symbols are then collected in the meter and when you have 20, you can progress to the next level.

The Fortune Wins feature is a bonus game which only triggers during the free spins round or during a re-spin. You can collect special symbols and there are 7 levels through which to progress. Any key symbols that land, push you to the next level and the aim is to reach level 7 where you can win 10,000x your stake.

If 2 scatters land in a regular win, you’ll receive a respin with only special symbols, keys and blanks. If a special symbol lands, the process repeats.

Verdict

This is a unique design with some innovative gameplay. It may not become a huge NetEnt hit, but it’s a solid title for all players to enjoy.
