Age of the Dogs is a video slot released by Playtech on the 26th February 2026. Age of the Gods is a popular Playtech franchise that has seen multiple adaptations of Greek God fantasy and fiction, including Age of the Gods Zeus and Age of the Gods Mighty Midas. However, this time, Playtech have taken a new direction featuring four Dogs, Artemis, Hermes, Ares and Poseidon with huge powers to expand the grid, add extra wilds or transform symbols. Read on to find out more.

Age of the Dogs features a 7×7 grid that can expand throughout the game. There are no paylines as Playtech chose the Cluster Pay mechanic, where landing five matching symbols triggers a cascade.

The slot is available to play on desktop and mobile devices with bets ranging from 10p to £500 per spin. (Capped at £5 per spin in the UK). As yet, the volatility and max win have not been released.

Design and Symbols

We head back to the famous Mount Olympus, where the Greek Gods reside, along with a pack of dogs! The intricate reels sit in the middle of the screen, flanked by palatial marble pillars, while Greek buildings appear in the background.

On the reels are low-value blue, green, purple and orange gemstones. The high-value symbols include a crossbow, an axe, and a pole. The Wild acts as a substitute for regular symbols while the Scatter triggers the bonus game. There are Dog Symbols available, but more on those later.

Age of the Dogs Features

Playtech chose a Cluster Pays model, and features include Wilds, Cascades, Dog symbols, Free Games, Barking Bets and a Buy In feature.

Wilds

The Wild acts as a substitute for regular symbols to help form winning combinations. However, it does not substitute for Scatters or Dog symbols.

Cascades

Once you land a winning combo of 5 or more matching symbols, a Cascade triggers. The winning symbols disappear, and new symbols drop down to fill the empty spaces. This can create multiple cascades on a single spin. The cascades end when no new wins are formed.

Dog Symbols

Dog Symbols can land during the base game and the free spins, each with individual capabilities. There are four Dog symbols: Ares, Hermes, Artemis and Poseidon.

Ares

If Ares lands, the grid expands by 1 reel and 1 row to a maximum of 10×10 before transforming into a Wild.

Hermes

If Hermes lands, he drops between 3 and 10 Wilds in random positions across the grid before exploding.

Artemis

Artemis transforms up to 3 types of symbols into a randomly selected symbol, except the Scatter.

Poseidon

When Poseidon lands, a respin triggers all winning clusters, Wilds and Scatters remain sticky on the reels, while all the other symbols are replaced. If new winning clusters are formed, additional respins are awarded.

Only one of each dog type can land on a spin.

Age of the Dogs Free Spins

The Scatter is the dog collar and bone, and landing 3 Scatters on a spin triggers the Free Games. There are four options, each offering free spins and dogs.

There is the option of:

⚡ 10 free spins + 1 Dog

⭐ 5 Free Spins with 2 Dogs

⚡ 3 Free Spins with 3 Dogs

⭐ 1 Free Spin with 4 Dogs

Landing 3 more Scatters during the features awards extra free spins. The extra Free spins are determined by the option chosen at the start of the feature.

If you choose 10 Free Spins, you’ll receive 5 Extra Spins, 5 Free Spins, 3 Extra Spins, 3 Free Spins, 2 Extra Spins and 1 Free Spin, which awards 1 Extra Spin. However, the number of Dogs remains the same as your original choice.

Barking Bets/ Buy In

✅  There are extra chances of triggering Dog symbols or the Free Spins feature with Barking Bets for 20% of your current bet.

✅  For 100x the bet, you can trigger the Free Spins.

Verdict

Age of the Dogs is Playtech doing something unexpected with one of its most successful brands. Instead of another straight-faced Greek deity outing, the studio swaps thunderbolts for canines and builds the mechanics around four overpowered Dog symbols that can reshape the entire grid. It’s still Mount Olympus – marble pillars, gemstones, mythological weaponry – but the dogs have replaced the gods.

The expanding 7×7 cluster grid is the backbone of the game, and once Ares begins pushing it towards 10×10 territory, the screen can become chaotic in a good way. Hermes flooding the grid with Wild symbols adds sudden volatility spikes, while Poseidon’s respin mechanic introduces moments where the reels reset, but the important pieces remain locked in place. Artemis, meanwhile, can flip the board by converting multiple symbols into one symbol type. Once these features stack inside the Free Spins, things escalate quickly.

That said, a few details remain unclear. Playtech has not released the official volatility rating or maximum win at the time of writing, which makes it harder to gauge long-term potential.

The free spins’ structure is flexible and strategic, and allows players to choose between more Dogs or more Free Spins.

Age of the Dogs is mechanics-driven rather than brand-driven, and I like that. The theme is fun, but the real appeal lies in how aggressively the grid can expand and how disruptive the Dog symbols can become. If you enjoy cluster pays, cascades, and feature-heavy gameplay, Age of Dogs is a sure-fire win.
