Aftermath is a NetEnt slot released in September 2026. Artificial intelligence has gone rogue, nuclear war has devastated civilisation, and the survivors now face the consequences in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

The survivors are former office workers who have traded spreadsheets and performance reviews for a fight across the wasteland. Golf clubs, scrap-metal blades and traffic-sign shields provide the weapons. It is a bleak premise, but NetEnt approach it with a suitably dark sense of humour.

Aftermath combines Scatter Pays with Avalanches, an expanding grid and a progressive multiplier. Bomb, Purge, Upgrade and Change features alter the grid as the game develops. Symbols and Payouts

Playing card ranks from Q to A occupy the lower end of the paytable, with 16 or more matching symbols returning 0.5x the bet. Brass knuckles, an axe and a sword represent the middle tier, increasing the payout to 2x for a combination of the same size.

Three survivors are the premium symbols. Groups of at least 16 identical characters award between 4x and 10x the bet.

The Wild is the gold lettering inside a matching frame, substituting for regular symbols. A raised fist represents the Scatter and triggers the bonus round.

Scavenge through the ruins for Cascades, sticky multipliers, four Special Features, two bonus rounds, and Feature Buy all standing between the survivors and the ultimate prize.

Cascades and Multipliers

Every winning combination triggers an Avalanche. The winning symbols are removed, allowing new symbols to fall into the empty positions. If new wins are created, the avalanches continue until no further wins are formed.

Each successive win increases the active multiplier by +1, with the new value applied to subsequent wins during the same sequence. The multiplier resets between base-game spins. During the Bonus and Super Bonus, the multiplier does not reset between spins. Instead, its accumulated value remains active and continues to increase throughout the respective bonus round.

Special Features

If one of the four Special Symbols lands on the grid, its corresponding feature triggers after all Avalanches from the current sequence have ended.

Bomb – Destroys eight surrounding positions and doubles the current multiplier. If the explosion reaches the outer wall, the grid expands.

Upgrade – Transforms itself and a random number of low-paying symbols into either the highest or second-highest paying symbol.

Change – Replaces its own position and the eight surrounding spaces with one of the regular symbols present within that area.

Purge – Clears itself, low-paying symbols and sections of the wall. If it reaches the outer perimeter, the grid expands.

Bonus & Super Bonus Spins

Landing three, four or five Scatters at the end of a base-game spin triggers eight, 10 or 12 Bonus Spins respectively. If one of the triggering symbols is a Super Scatter, the Super Bonus is awarded instead.

During both bonuses, the grid size and accumulated multiplier remain persistent between spins. Each additional Scatter awards three extra spins.

Regular Bonus Spins introduce Wilds with a +2 multiplier. During the Super Bonus, Wild multipliers range from +3 to +10, with at least one Wild guaranteed on every spin.

Elevate Feature

The Elevate Feature includes five options that can be triggered per game:

Scatter Hunt – 5x the bet increases the chance of triggering Bonus Spins or Super Bonus Spins by more than seven times.

Feature Hunt – 10x the bet guarantees at least one Special Feature during the spin.

Power Boost – 25x the bet and begins with a random multiplier between 5x and 10x.

Aftermath presents nuclear devastation with considerably more imagination than the usual collection of ruined buildings and radioactive debris. Nature has reclaimed much of the abandoned city, survivors have constructed a new existence among what remains, and NetEnt’s dark humour provides personality without trivialising the bleak premise.

The features reinforce the post-apocalyptic concept. Avalanches clear the grid, while Bomb, Upgrade, Change and Purge alter its composition as sequences develop. The 25,000x max win has considerable potential at the upper end. Elevate provides several alternative routes into the features. Unfortunately, UK players will be excluded from these options due to UKGC regulations.
