Slap On The Wrist For Sky Vegas With ‘Misleading’ Promotion
Published on by Becky Mosley
Whenever online casinos offer promotions, it’s very important that they use the right words and phrases so as not to mislead players. Every so often, an online casino is found to be guilty of running a promotion that isn’t 100% accurate in what it promises to players.
Sky Vegas launched a promotion in January, though the promotion has since received two complaints for apparently being misleading.
‘No Lose Month’
The particular part of the promotion that triggered these complaints was the part that said, ‘No lose month, no lose month throughout January. Play risk-free throughout January at Sky Vegas – Terms apply.’ What followed was an explanation of all the rules of the promotion.
The Advertising Standard Authority (ASA) decided that the phrases ‘no lose month’ and ‘risk-free’ would lead players to believe that their money was safe and that they could play without losing their original stake. The ASA felt that if the original stake was lost, it was to be refunded to the player not as bonus money with wagering requirements, but as cash that could be withdrawn.
‘100% Cash Back On Net Losses’
The ASA also had an issue with the part of the promotion that stated that players could ‘play the selected games for 100% cashback on net losses’. They felt that this was contradictory because in the terms and conditions, the maximum amount was either £10 or £20 depending on what games were played.
Broken CAP Codes
In total, Sky Vegas were found to have broken five CAP Codes. The UK Code of Non-broadcast Advertising, Sales Promotion and Direct Marketing (CAP) is a set of rules covering online marketing communications, as well as sales promotions, direct marketing communications and non-broadcast advertisements. As Sky Vegas was found to have broken five CAP Codes, the promotion cannot appear in its original form on the website again.
