RGSB Encourages Responsible Gambling
Published on by Becky Mosley
The Responsible Gambling Strategy Board (RGSB) has introduced new recommendations that are designed to protect players from making choices that could be detrimental to their finances and personal well-being. These recommendations are the result of new laws that apply to land based casinos that are designed to ensure that gambling does not cause any harm to players.
What are these recommendations?
The RGSB has suggested that there should be several ways to ensure that placing bets does not have a negative effect on anyone who enjoys iGaming. Here, we have a look at how harm can be minimised.
- Study the facts about harmful gambling. Instead of just producing statistics on how many people have a problem with iGaming, the RGSB suggests that we examine why this happens and how it can be prevented.
- Recruit the help of public sector organisations in order to minimise problem gambling.
- Put all the pieces together and assess – we should take a look at how this issue has been managed so far, and decide on what works and what doesn’t.
- Gain an appreciation of how the type of wagering and where it takes place affects potentially vulnerable players.
- Get better at finding out who has a problem and why.
- Get better at communicating with players and helping those with issues to minimise potential harm.
- Educate people on how wagering can become an issue and why.
- Find out the best ways to help those who need assistance.
- Generally improving our knowledge of problem gambling.
- Connecting with the public to make sure they understand the risks.
For the vast majority of people, wagering at online casinos is an enjoyable way to pass the time. However, for some, it will become a detrimental hobby that comes with a variety of risks. Providers should join together to ensure that gambling risks are understood, and that players who need help get the assistance they need.
