Playtech acquires Best Gaming Technology in €138 million deal

As far as gambling technology groups go, you would be hard pressed to find any that are bigger than Playtech. Over the years they have been able to rub shoulders with industry legends, with that by no means happening by chance. Showing that they now have the financial muscle to rival its creative credentials, Playtech has acquired a new development name that will now feature under the Playtech banner. The deal to acquire Best Gaming Technology, which is valued at €138 million, is set to allow Playtech to strengthen its position within the world of sports betting.

Cross-Market Expansion

For the most part, Playtech has remained firmly rooted within the world of online casino play, but it is evident that the company is making noises with regards to cross-market expansion. By acquiring Best Gaming Technology, what Playtech will be able to do is emerge as a large-scale sports betting name, with this complimenting the casino games that the brand makes available.Playtech logo

Digitisation

Speaking on the deal with Best Gaming Technology and what it will mean for Playtech moving forward, Mor Weizer (Playtech Chief Executive) said, ““We believe that the future of gaming is for retail operators to digitise their offering. This follows the same trends we see in other commercial sectors around the world, with the modernisation and digitisation of betting shops not only improving the retail experience, but also adding a whole new channel as it integrates into an online offering.” Best Gaming Technology also issued a statement saying, “BGT is at an inflection point in its development as we penetrate into new markets whilst upgrading our products at a phenomenal speed. I believe that becoming part of the Playtech family will allow Playtech and BGT to take omni-channel to the next level.”
