Over the years the online casino industry has certainly been rocked by various bombshells. However, the latest story to be plastered across industry newswires is sure to ruffle the feathers of players throughout North America and South America. By all accounts PayPal are making the decision to withdraw payment protection support for all gambling-related transactions that occur in Brazil, Canada, and the United States.

Highly Controversial Move

The move, which is already being seen as highly controversial, was officially discussed in a statement issued by PayPal. PayPal as a company has had a fraught relationship with the online casino industry for some time, with the latest move only being seen as further proof of that. In a user agreement update, players will now find that gambling-related payment protection will cease come June 25th. What this means that any and all transactions that involve gambling, gaming, and prize draws (that requirement payment) will no longer be covered.PayPal Pulls The Plug On Gambling Transaction Payment Protection

Become Worldwide Eventually

The new rules are already causing issues, but at this point it is North America and South America exclusive, with it not reaching European shores as of yet. However, it is predicted that withdrawal of payment protection for gambling-related transactions will eventually be introduced worldwide.Last year PayPal split from parent company eBay, with many fearing that the firm would begin to pull away from the online casino industry as result. Considering the company’s decision to withdraw payment protection support for all gambling-related transactions, it seems that many players’ worst nightmares are now beginning to materialise. While the move to make this a worldwide initiative is still it in its early stages, it may very well be time for online gamblers to look for a more casino-conscious payment provider.
