Paddy Power Launches New In-Store Self-Exclusion System
The protection of vulnerable gamblers is becoming an increasingly high priority for the gambling industry under the watchful eye of the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC).
With the UKGC instigating various new regulations to protect problem gamblers, gambling companies are racing to be the first to initiate new systems to protect players.
The latest addition comes courtesy of Irish bookmaker Paddy power, who have rolled out their new betting shop self-exclusion system which will replace the former system.
The new Paddy Power exclusion system
The last Paddy Power self-exclusion system was subject to some criticism due to it being harder than necessary to access, the new digital system looks to rectify that.
The system has been designed specifically for use in Paddy Power’s betting shops and store customer contact information as well as an image.
With the system, self-exclusion is set instantly and will immediately be shared with up to 10 betting shops in the local area.
The system is due to be rolled out across all UK stores by June 2018, with Paddy Power shops in Ireland expecting to follow suit before the end of 2018.
Easier and quicker
Speaking of the new system, which was designed by the Responsible Gambling Consultancy and is fully complaint with the EU’s General Data Protection Regulations, David Newton, Managing Director of Retail at Paddy Power, said:
“Providing quick support for customers who want to self-exclude is a key element of our responsible gambling agenda.
“We believe that this new process will make self-exclusion easier and quicker for our customers and hope that other retail betting-operators join us in providing this service.”
With the industry being pushed more and more to look after vulnerable gamblers above all else, Mr Newton’s statement that other betting shop operators will follow their lead is likely to come to fruition soon.
