Paddy Power Behind Daniel Craig To Continue As Bond

Published on by

It seems like speculation as to who is going to be the next Bond has been going on for years at this point, but Paddy Power are still backing Daniel Craig to continue on in the role. This opinion has certainly not been harmed by showbiz rumours suggesting that Sony are prepared to offer $150 million (£115 million) to Craig for back-to-back Bond movies. This news sees Paddy Power offering odds of 8-11 for Craig to reprise his role as the famed MI6 agent.

Other frontrunners

There has been quite the switch in terms of favourites outside of Daniel Craig since the rumours of the actor stepping aside first surfaced.Previous frontrunners Idris Elba and Tom Hiddleston have now dropped to outsider positions at 14/1 apiece. The younger actors who were favourites more recently have also dropped down the list a bit, with James Norton dropping from 9/4 to 5/2 alongside Irish actor Aidan Turner.Paddy Power now have Jack Huston at third favourite at 6/1, but it is very much Daniel Craig who is expected to continue in the role for the foreseeable at least.

Surprise offer

The rumours of Sony’s mammoth offer have come as a shock to many industry insiders due to Craig’s open and frank unwillingness to continue on in the role. After filming Spectre, Craig said publicly that he would rather ‘slash his wrists’ than commit to another Bond film. However, with Spectre bringing in nearly €1 billion at the box office, it is no surprise that Sony are willing to aim high when it comes to keeping Craig on board for future Bond movies. It remains to be seen whether Craig’s dread of filming another Bond film will be somewhat softened by such a huge offer, but Paddy Power clearly assume this to be the likely outcome.
