New regulations for online slot games just released
If you enjoy playing online slots, then there will soon be a marked change in how you will be able to play. The UK Gambling Commission has just announced a series of new measures to better protect online casino players, which will change the way in which you can play online slots.
Making Gambling Safer
Chief Executive of the UK Gambling Commission spoke about the new changes coming into force, saying:
“To make online games safer we are introducing a ban on features that speed up play, or give the illusion of control over the outcome. We are also introducing a ban on autoplay, losses disguised as wins and slot spin speeds faster than 2.5 seconds. The evidence shows that these features increase the risk of harm to customers. This is another important step in making gambling safer and where the evidence shows that there are other opportunities to do that, we are determined to take them.”
Change to bets and gameplay
The changes coming into effect are the result of a public consultation with both industry stakeholders, operators and players. On the whole, players tend to lose more money playing online slot than any other area of online casino play. These new changes will make online slot games much safer and give players greater control over how they gamble. More importantly, these new measures will completely ban four key features used in online slot games.
Ban on Autoplay, Quick Play and Key Sounds
Many online slots have an autoplay feature where you can set your stake limit and instead of clicking each time you spin, play continuously runs without any need for interaction. Along with this, any feature that enables play to be sped up to more than 2.5 seconds, will also come to an end in order to reduce the risk of players losing control of their spending or being tempted to gamble more than they ordinarily would do so.
If a slot game features certain sounds or imagery that give the illusion of a win, when in actual fact you may have only ‘won’ your stake amount or an amount less than your stake, this will no longer be allowed.
