Complaints Lead To Apologies From BetRight And Fruity King

Last Friday, one of the UK’s leading betting companies BetRight issued a promotional email featuring some rather cheeky comments about Jesus Christ. The email stated that Jesus “would probably frown on you betting on a holy day, but he’s been dead years.” That said, BetRight suggested that this shouldn’t “spoil your fun on your day off” because Christ “probably won’t mind anymore.”

Customers Offended

Backlash came swiftly, with many customers stating that they were offended leading to a formal apology by BetRight’s marketing director Brian Farrell.Farrell labeled the Good Friday mishap “inappropriate” and said BetRight employees “do not support and will not tolerate derogatory references of any manner.”

Fruity King’s Mistake

However, BetRight’s faux pas was arguably not as offensive as Fruity King’s similar mistake just a week ago. For some strange reason, Fruity King decided to tweet a particularly gaunt and bald picture of Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy with the caption “like an extra from Schindler’s List.”Strangely, customers weren’t too keen on a joke making light of the Holocaust, nor were the National Holocaust Center, which labeled the tweet “disrespectful” and “inappropriate”.Two days later, the tweet was deleted and accompanied by a statement from the complaint saying it was “a joke” and that “no offence was meant”. The spokesman went on to say that the “intention was to entertain and certainly not to offend anyone,” adding that the company tweets loads of things that “some people find amusing, some not so amusing.”
