2021 Safe Gambling Week Scheduled for November
Following the success of the 2020 Safer Gambling Week, a date has been scheduled for the 2021 event, which will be held the week commencing 1st November. Safer Gambling Week aims to raise awareness about problem gambling, provide advice and information and ensure players gamble safely and responsibly.
2021 Safer Gambling Week
The Betting and Gaming Council, the Bingo Association and the British Amusement Catering Trade Association will all work together to promote safer gambling and bring awareness for individuals.
The event is designed to get players to question their gambling and review how they gamble and how often, encouraging safer gambling at all times. Even though the majority of casinos, arcades and bingo halls were closed last year, the 2020 event was still a huge success with 19% more people seeking information on safer gambling and 19million players learning about safer gambling, setting deposit limits or self-excluding, thanks to the campaign.
During Safer Gambling Week, poster, leaflets and information is displayed to encourage players to review their gambling. Staff in venues are on hand to give advice and support to anyone who is concerned about their gambling or seeking further information. Online gambling sites will have links to information and will use social media to send out the safer gambling message.
Review of UK legislation
With the current Gambling Act being under review at the moment, there has been a clear drive from both campaigners and many operators to ensure players are protected from gambling related harm. Large operators have introduced much stricter protocols and banks have also been keen to offer blocking tools on gambling transactions and tools to assist players who are at risk of gambling related harm.
With the review of the 2005 Gambling Act already set to tighten legislation and protect players, the Safer Gambling Week initiatives are a great way of asking everyone to take a look at their gambling and question whether it is safe and done responsibly.
