How did Petfre begin?

Petre was founded in 1967 by Peter Done and Fred Done, with the name being a blend of the two founders. However, they didn’t use the trading name Betfred until 2004. Their first shops were called Done Bookmakers and the first high street shop was opened in Ordsall, Salford in 1967. It was actually set up from the winnings of a bet that Fred made for England to win the World Cup in 1966. Done betting shops then gradually grew in numbers, taking over the Robert Walker chain of stores and continuing on to become the largest chain of independent bookies in the UK.

In 2004, the Betfred name was adopted as they launched their online betting sites, sports betting, online and mobile casinos and lotto, and high street shops adopted the Betfred name.
