Spelinspektionen Strengthens Ties with UK Authorities
In a recent move to bolster international collaborations, the Spelinspektionen, Sweden’s Gambling Authority visited the United Kingdom with a primary objective of engaging with both the UK Gambling Commission and Sportsradar.
The delegation from Spelinspektionen comprised notable figures such as Fredrik Lindquist, the AML Compliance Officer; Patrik Gustavsson, Head of Operations; and investigators Samuel Wahlberg and Daniel Bergman. Their first stop was at the London-based sports data and technology firm, Sportsradar. This company had previously entered into a partnership with Spelinspektionen in March 2022. The main objective of the collaboration will see Sportsradar collecting and analysing data for the Swedish authority, focusing on monitoring sports competitions in Sweden to help detect any suspicious match-fixing activities.
Next, they headed to Birmingham, where they met with representatives from the UK Gambling Commission. The collaborative team exchanged insights related to gambling regulations and strategies with the aim of combating unethical sports betting practices. Patrik Gustavsson commented on the visit, emphasising the significance of sharing experiences with international counterparts. He believes such interactions pave the way for fostering a safe and healthy gambling market.
During the discussions, the two regulatory bodies explored strategies to combat illegal gambling and discussed the potential of enhanced communication channels to bolster international efforts against such activities. The UK Gambling Commission took the opportunity to shed light on the ongoing changes they are introducing via the White Paper. In contrast, Spelinspektionen shared their experiences related to responsible gaming and implementing mandatory deposit limits.
A representative from the UK Gambling Commission expressed gratitude for the visit, emphasising the importance of global collaboration to make gambling safer and crime-free. This sentiment aligns with recent statements from Tim Miller, Executive Director of the UK Gambling Commission, who highlighted the commission’s commitment to collaborating with global organisations.
