Players claim Betfred are refusing to transfer their MoPlay cash balances

There have been reports that UK gambling operator, Betfred, are refusing to honor the cash balances of players that were brought over from the MoPlay acquisition that took place several weeks ago.

 

Betfred acquired MoPlay

 

MoPlay was operated by Addison Global, and in February this year, had their license suspended by the Gibraltar Licensing Authority and UK Gambling Commission. They subsequently went into administration and were acquired by Betfred who promised to honor the accounts of players ad transfer their balances over to Betfred.

 

 

There were approximately 180,000 MoPlay accounts that were transferred to Betfred, however, many customers are now complaining that their balances have not been transferred and have complained to the campaign group, ‘justice4punters’. One member had a balance of over £27,000 that has not been transferred and many believe Betfred are actively restricted the accounts that aren’t profitable for them.

 

‘Commercially convenient’

 

A spokesperson for Justice4Punters said: “We’ve received a fair number of complaints. All the complaints seem to have one thing in common, they have restricted betting accounts, be that with MoPlay and/or with BetFred. From what we’ve been sent, it’s certainly not clear to J4P why these customers are being treated differently, except it all seems rather commercially convenient.”

 

Betfred have denied any wrongdoing with regards to these accounts stating:

“We could not confirm how many accounts did not migrate from MoPlay, as this information is not within our knowledge. We successfully migrated circa 180k customers from MoPlay to BetFred, these customers reflect eligible customer accounts and specifically excluded self-excluded or frozen accounts. We did not conduct any due diligence on the profitability of individuals in the MoPlay customer database nor did we close any BetFred accounts to prevent migration of MoPlay balances.

“Our actions to date are 100% in accordance with the terms of the contract with the liquidator and for those customers who did not migrate we are directing them to the liquidator to submit a claim in the liquidation.”
