In Person and Online Gambling has Risen but Problem Gambling Figures Remain Low
According to the latest figures published by the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) in-person and online gambling in the UK has risen but in comparison, but gambling-related problems remain stable, compared to last year.
Yonder Consulting held its latest phone survey for the UKGC based on 4,018 adults above the age of 16 between December 2021 and March, June, and September 2022.
Gambling Participation Remains Low
Although due to the covid response, gambling participation still remains lower than figures published before 2020. The figures show in-person gambling like playing slots, the National Lottery, and instant win games have increased after major restrictions were forced on the nation as the pandemic hit. Shops, betting outlets, and casino and bingo halls closed their doors for the best part of the year saw people gravitate towards online gambling activities.
According to the data, the growth in online gambling increased in the UK. In the last four weeks, in-person gambling increased by 27% while online gambling rose by 27% also. Although the figures rose in both sectors, they remain lower than pre-pandemic figures.
After the easing of Covid restrictions, it was inevitable gambling in person would increase as shops, bingo halls, and casinos reopened, however, gambling-related harm had remained low despite an uptake in gambling.
