GambleAware Set to Launch Lived Experience Council
GambleAware, an independent charity set up to tackle gambling-related harm is to launch its Lived Experience Council run entirely by people with direct lived gambling experience of gambling harm. The Council will engage with communities of people who have also experienced gambling-related problems.
Share Personal Experiences
People indirectly impacted by gambling-related harms will play an integral part in sharing their own personal experiences and expertise in reporting information to GambleAware and its Board of Trustees.
GambleAware continues its commitment to tackling issues in communities where help is needed most, Council members will be equipped to deliver expert independent advice from GambleAware’s activities and programmes, guide the charity’s governance and strategic development and attend board meetings.
CEO for GambleAware Zoe Osmond said, “We are committed to meaningful and inclusive involvement of those with lived experience of gambling harms to ensure their voice is amplified across all areas of our work. As an imperative step in the process, we are pleased to be launching and opening the call for applications for GamblAware’s new Lived Experience Council.
“I strongly encourage all those who are interested in being part of this new venture, to please get in touch. The new Council and community members will bring their unique insight, expertise, and knowledge to GambleAware and help us in creating a society free from gambling harms.”
Supporting Community-Based Groups
The new initiative will further enhance GambleAware’s commitment to supporting and funding community-based groups tackling issues related to gambling harms.
Community initiatives continue after GambleAware set up the ALERTS group, working in parallel with the National Clinicians Network Forum, which forms part of the National Gambling Treatment Service (NGTS). All members have experienced harm associated with gambling and have received successful treatment.
