Betting Rose on the Women’s Euro as Punters Keen to Back UK Team
Yesterday saw a massive win for the UK’s Lionesses as they won Germany 2-1 in the Women’s Euro Finals 2022. Bettors showed massive support for the team with the majority of bets favoured the UK Women’s team to win.
According to Flutter Entertainment, betting has risen during the Women’s Euro tournament, with the majority of bets placed ahead of the final held at Wembley Stadium last night.
Increase in Bets
Compared to the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2019, Paddy Power reported a 26% increase in overall wagers.
Equally, Sky Betting announced an uptake in bets with 934,330 bets placed throughout the 2022 tournament.
The stats were recorded before the final on Sunday when the Lionesses romped home to win 2-1 against Germany and for the most a cracking end to a lively tournament.
Flutter announced the majority of the bets placed before the final were in favour of the England Women’s team to win, and data collected by Paddy Power showed that 74% of bets placed backed the England team to win.
Although Betfair saw similar figures, the match which received the highest bets was between England and Sweden, followed by the game between England and Spain. Paddy Power estimated £6.6m in bets for the duration of the tournament, with a £400,000 increase on the bets placed in the 2019 World Cup.
Made History
