GambleAware
GambleAware are an independent charity in agreement with the United Kingdom Gambling Commission (UKGC) to deliver a strategy to reduce gambling-related harm within the gambling industry. The team mainly consists of health care sector workers who regard gambling as a public health issue and treat it as such. This requires an approach to promoting a safer environment, providing care for groups who are susceptible to gambling-related harm and individuals suffering from gambling disorders.
GambleAware asks gambling operators who make a profit from gambling in the UK to donate a minimum of 0.1% of its Gross Gambling Yield (GGY) to the charity, under the watchful eye of the UKGC to enable them to continue with their work.
Many gambling operators and software developers alike also contribute to the work GambleAware is committed to, including Unibet, Playtech, One Click, White Hat Gaming to name a few.
Funding Exceeds 2020
The H1 funding exceeds more than half of pledges and donations during the total fiscal year of $26m. 2020 was a particularly hard year for the industry as the Covid-Pandemic hit and businesses closed their doors and all sports betting fixtures around the world came to a halt.
Today, businesses have adapted to the circumstances and have fought back hard to regain their positions once again, this accounts for much higher donations in 2021.
