94% of players aware of responsible gambling measures in place

In the last few years, there has been a huge move to ensure that anyone who enjoys gambling in any form, whether online, at the races or in betting shops, does so responsibly and is protected from gambling related harm.  As a result, there has been strict compliance measures put in place to ensure offers and terms are transparent, imagery doesn’t appeal to children and players are made aware of responsible gambling tools available to them.

During the lockdown period due to the Coronavirus pandemic, many were worried this would lead to a large increase in the number of people gambling online. However, the UK Gambling Commission actually found that although the period of time people spent gambling online had increased slightly, overall, the number of people gambling online had dropped.

94% aware of responsible gambling tools

In a recent survey by BonusFinder.com, it would appear that this push in promoting responsible gambling tools has been successful, as 94% of people are aware of the tools available to ensure gambling is done responsibly.

The survey questioned 500 UK casino and bingo players. It found that around 31% said they played ‘somewhat more’ during this period, while 28% said they gambled the same as normal.

Out of those surveyed, around 94% said they were aware of the responsible gambling tools, such as deposit limits, self exclusion etc.  The deposit limits were the most well-known tool with men more likely to be aware of them (66%) than women (61%).

Another tool that men were more aware of was the time out limits, with 54% of men knowing of these compared to 44% of women.

Responsible Gambling tools working

The managing director of BonusFinder, Fintan Costello, commented on the survey results saying:

“Our research has found that RG tools have been top of mind for players even when many have been confined to their homes due to government guidelines. As the UK emerges from this period, we can see that gambling levels have risen but to a lesser extent than we expected and crucially, that players are aware of the range of helpful RG tools available to them across many regulated brands.

“The industry is taking a great deal of positive steps to protect players and it is high time we focused on this. We must continue to educate and normalise RG tools across all ages as well as improve and increase education and awareness for younger adults.”
