Is it about time that we should all start wondering if Nektan has a problem? The operator appears to be incapable of not releasing online casinos, which would be exciting for players, if they weren’t all essentially the same casino, just with the absolute minimal amount of changes made to make it at least look like a new site, a little.

To be fair to Play UK, this is the anomaly in the collection, as it is not particularly reminiscent of the abundance of other sites that exist on the Nektan network.

However, Play UK does utilise a tool that many Nektan sites have, and that really needs to stop, quickly.

When you step away from the site to another tab on your browser, the Play UK tab will call after you, saying “Hey, Come Back!” which, while it is clearly supposed to be a cute addition to the site, is in fact a dangerous one.

With attention on those who can be perceived as preying on vulnerable gamblers being higher than it ever has been before, to have a site that actually shouts after you if you try to take a break is not conducive to the overall tone of the industry at this point.

At best, it’s a badly thought out idea, and when that’s the best option, it’s probably worth getting rid of pretty quickly.

That being said, and this probably says more about other Nektan sites than it does about Play UK, if this is the only serious complaint to be found, this site has a leg up on its network brethren form the outset.

Design and theme

Play UK may look different to the majority of Nektan sites, which is, in itself, a definitely tick in the positive column, but that is not to say that this site looks particularly exciting, because it most certainly doesn’t.

Awkward looking models have been a mainstay in the banners of online casino sites for a strong while now, but there may have never been a more awkward looking model than the one present at the top of the Play UK page.

This is no insult to the model herself, but the photo is far from what it is intended to be, whatever that may be.

Scroll past that and the Play UK site doesn’t actually look too bad, a white and yellow colour scheme provides the backdrop to a host of thumbnails that in both design and format create a design all of their own, bringing a sense of a games-first focus to the site, which has proven successful for many sites in the past. This approach also means navigation is simple, which helps too.

Granted, this isn’t the best looking site we’ve ever seen, but compared to other NetEnt sites, it looks like a Van Gogh painting!
