The Sun Casino

The Sun Casino Review

The Sun Casino

If you are from the UK, or you spend time there, you will probably be aware that as a newspaper, The Sun has a huge amount of popularity, but it is also less than loved by an equally large portion of the UK population. However, we’re not here to discuss politics, we are here to get a feel for what The Sun Casino has to offer, an online casino that also offers sportsbook options for those who like a flutter on horse racing, football, and many other sporting events.

The casino came to life after The Sun struck up a deal with Tabcorp, and as a result, the sports betting site was born, and the online casino options quickly followed. The Sun Casino is licensed by the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) but, unfortunately, is, at this time, only available to players from the UK and Ireland.

Launched in 2016, The Sun clearly had the idea many other big brands had, take a step into this rapidly growing and immensely popular industry, and assume that having a name that holds weight will assist in your success. Now, it is fair to say that The Sun as a brand is certainly well known amongst its target audience, but it will always take a lot more than that to make an impact on the incredibly competitive online casino market, because there are many other sites with names that carry gravitas only due to their work in the online casino world, and its sites like this which The Sun Casino must fight against to try and gain a foothold in this busy market.

Design and theme

If it was a fair assumption beforehand that The Sun was going to try and capitalise on brand recognition to make an impact, this theory is very much confirmed by the website. As you would expect, the red and white colours associated with the high-selling tabloid are here in abundance, with the top of the page looking much like the top of an issue of the newspaper.

That being said, the Sun Casino also clearly understands the necessity to take influence from other successful casino sites, and it does just this, with rolling banners across the top of the page which switch between various bonus offers, and large thumbnails on the homepage allowing you instant access to some of the most popular games the site has on offer.

Navigation is simple enough here, no harder than at most other sites, but no easier either, and that’s how this site feels in general. It’s not a bad looking site, but it feels more like a tribute than a new site, with nothing fresh or new happening here at all.

Games

The problem with having huge thumbnails on the homepage, is that when you have a poor selection of games on offer, it advertises that fact immediately, and that is very much the trap that The Sun Casino falls into here. Between the casino and the sportsbook, the only software developers here are Metric Gaming, Playtech, and Tabcorp, and, despite all three of these companies being very well reputed, it simply isn’t enough when there are competitors who only offer casino play and can offer titles from up to ten times as many software developers as The Sun Casino does.

Slots and table and card games are here, as you’d hope, and indeed expect, but there’s just nothing special about it.
